Investors gain N355.46bn as NGX-ASI increases by 0.97%
Nigeria’s Equities Market closed positive on Monday by 0.97% as the NGX-ASI increased to 67,101.33 from 66,454.57 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +30.93%.
Market capitalization increased by N0.35 trillion to N36.86 trillion from N36.51 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, while the market turnover decreased to N3.46 billion from N8.93 billion.
At the end of the first weekday of trading, a total of 268,663,822 shares in 6,911 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 3,463,657,935.56, were traded.
Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Friday, October 6), today’s data shows 28% decline in volume, 61% decline in turnover, but 1% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 36.9 trillion.
In the aggregate, 116 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 26 gainers and 23 losers. BUA Cement led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 103.40 per share, followed by Consolidated Hallmark Insurance (+9.8%), Nigerian Breweries (+9.09%) and John Holt (+8.11%).
On the losing side, Prestige Assurance Company came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 0.45 per share, followed by FTN Cocoa Processors (-8.33%), Neimeth International Pharma (-7.74%) and Sovereign Trust Insurance (-5%). Associated Bus Company recorded the highest volume of 29.3 million traded shares, followed by Access Holdings (29.2m), Oando (27.1m) and United Bank for Africa (23.8m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) moved up 646.76 (0.97%) points to close at 67,101.33, representing a 1-week gain of 1.08%, a 4-week loss of 1.44%, but an overall year-to-date gain of 30.93%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (+1%; +1.08% 1WK; +33.97% YTD), NGX Top 50 Index (+0.53%; -0.53% 1WK; +42.5% YTD), NGX Industrial Index (+4.03%; +2.6% 1WK; +13.68% YTD), NGX Main Board Index (+1.67%; +5.65% 1WK; +33.92% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (+1.23%; -1.92% 1WK; +59.19% YTD), and NGX Pension Index (+1.22%; +2.03% 1WK; +62.13% YTD).
