Investors gain N41bn as NGX-ASI appreciates by 0.12%
Nigeria’s Equities Market closed positive on Wednesday by 0.12% as the NGX-ASI increased to 64,267.36 compared to 64,192.20 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +25.40%.
Market capitalization increased for the day by N41 billion to N34.973 trillion from N34.932trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, while the market turnover decreased to N4.269 billion from N7.710 billion recorded at the close of the previous trading day.
At the end of today’s trading session, a total of 330,784,391 shares in 6,251 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 4,269,702,769.66, were traded.
Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Tuesday, August 1), today’s data shows 57% decline in volume, 45% decline in turnover, and 21% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 35 trillion.
In the aggregate, 115 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 31 gainers and 26 losers. National Salt Company led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 35.75 per share, followed by Abbey Mortgage Bank (+10%), Chams (+10%) and Skyway Aviation Handling Co. (+9.96%).
On the losing side, Thomas Wyatt Nigeria came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 1.17 per share, followed by The Initiates (-10%), University Press (-9.78%) and Omatek Ventures (-9.76%).
Transcorp Nigeria recorded the highest volume of 58.8 million traded shares, followed by FBN Holdings (28m), Ecobank Transnational (21.3m) and Access Holdings (20.7m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) inched up 75.16 (0.12%) points to close at 64,267.36, representing a 1-week loss of 2.16%, a 4-week gain of 4.46%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 25.4%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 50 Index (+0.65%; -3.07% 1WK; +41.09% YTD), NGX Top 30 Index (+0.1%; -2.22% 1WK; +26.97% YTD), NGX Pension Index (+0.36%; -2.7% 1WK; +52.17% YTD), NGX Industrial Index (+0.22%; +18.61% YTD), NGX Consumer Goods Index (+0.16%; -2.64% 1WK; +45.97% YTD), and NGX Main Board Index (+0.14%; -1.61% 1WK; +18.95% YTD).
