
Investors gain N534bn as NGX-ASI increased by 1.61%.

Nigeria’s Equities Market closed positive on Monday as the NGX-ASI increased by 1.61% to close at 61,949.24 compared to 60,968.27 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +20.87%.
Market capitalization increased by N534 billion to N33.7318 trillion from N33.1978 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, while the market turnover decreased to N14.04 billion from N15.96 billion recorded at the close of the previous trading day.
At the end of the first weekday of trading on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NGX), a total of 1,205,487,439 shares in 12,128 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 14,039,718,812.50, were traded.
Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Friday, June 30), today’s data shows 21% improvement in volume, 12% decline in turnover, but 15% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 33.7 trillion.
In the aggregate, 125 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 67 gainers and 14 losers. Eterna led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 23.10 per share, followed by Fidelity Bank (+10%), University Press (+10%) and Meyer (+10%).
On the losing side, Tripple Gee & Co. came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.87% at NGN 3.38 per share, followed by Cornerstone Insurance Company (-9.09%), Secure Electronic Technology (-9.09%) and Associated Bus Company (-6.82%). FCMB Group recorded the highest volume of 174 million traded shares, followed by United Bank for Africa (161m), Access Holdings (133m) and Jaiz Bank (80.6m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) increased by 980.97 (1.61%) points to close at 61,949.24, representing a 1-week gain of 4.62%, a 4-week gain of 11.08%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 20.87%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 50 Index (+2.85%; +5.96% 1WK; +34.11% YTD), NGX Top 30 Index (+1.6%; +4.44% 1WK; +21.38% YTD), NGX Banking Index (+6.78%; +14.46% 1WK; +65.08% YTD), NGX Pension Index (+2.3%; +7.27% 1WK; +47.34% YTD), NGX Premium Index (+1.9%; +4.31% 1WK; +35.2% YTD), and NGX Insurance Index (+1.84%; +0.84% 1WK; +61.83% YTD).
