Investors gain N59.91bn as NGX-ASI increases by 0.16%
Nigeria’s equities market closed positive on Thursday by 0.16% as the NGX-ASI increased to 66,548.99 from 66,439.53 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +29.85%.
Market capitalization increased by N59.90 billion to N36.423 trillion from N36.362 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, while the market turnover decreased to N7.18 billion from N7.79 billion recorded at the close of the previous trading day.
At the end of today’s trading session, a total of 620,982,315 shares in 7,972 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 7,180,690,420.01, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Wednesday, August 30), today’s data shows 3% decline in volume, 8% decline in turnover, and 21% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 36.4 trillion.
In the aggregate, 119 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 31 gainers and 19 losers. Nigerian Exchange Group led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 26.40 per share, followed by Seplat Petroleum Development Co. (+9.95%), Trans-Nationwide Express (+9.38%) and University Press (+9.32%).
On the losing side, Multiverse Mining & Exploration came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 2.70 per share, followed by National Salt Company (-9.81%), Honeywell Flour Mill (-8.11%) and May & Baker Nigeria (-7.27%). Sterling Bank recorded the highest volume of 161 million traded shares, followed by Transcorp Nigeria (136m), Fidelity Bank (57.6m) and FTN Cocoa Processors (47.2m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) inched up 109.46 (0.16%) points to close at 66,548.99, representing a 1-week gain of 1.75%, a 4-week gain of 1.97%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 29.85%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (+0.03%; +1.91% 1WK; +32.85% YTD), NGX Top 50 Index (-0.25%; +1.44% 1WK; +44.23% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (+5.42%; +5.56% 1WK; +103.22% YTD), NGX Pension Index (+0.73%; +2.03% 1WK; +56.48% YTD), NGX Premium Index (+0.67%; +0.86% 1WK; +48.36% YTD), and NGX Banking Index (+0.33%; +0.54% 1WK; +54.8% YTD).
