Investors gain N979.78bn as NGX-ASI appreciates by 1.76%
Nigeria’s Equities Market closed positive on Wednesday by 1.76% as the NGX-ASI increased to 103,498.28 from 101,707.70 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +38.42%.
Market capitalization increased by N979.78 billion to N56.632 trillion from N55.652 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, While, the market turnover increased to N12.106 billion from N4.300 billion.
At the end of today’s trading session, a total of 426,861,373 shares in 8,654 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 12,106,904,275.81, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Tuesday, February 13), today’s data shows 62% improvement in volume and 182% improvement in turnover. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 56.6 trillion.
In the aggregate, 126 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 28 gainers and 25 losers. Airtel Africa led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 2,200.00 per share, followed by Unity Bank (+10%), Juli (+9.91%) and FBN Holdings (+9.9%).
On the losing side, MeCure Industries came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 9.72 per share, followed by NCR Nigeria (-10%), Thomas Wyatt Nigeria (-10%) and Meyer (-9.99%). FBN Holdings recorded the highest volume of 54.6 million traded shares, followed by United Bank for Africa (47.7m), Access Holdings (46m) and Transcorp Nigeria (30.6m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) increased by 1,790.58 (1.76%) points to close at 103,498.28, representing a 1-week gain of 1.36%, a 4-week gain of 14.92%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 38.42%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (+1.81%; +1.46% 1WK; +39.66% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (+5.34%; +5.16% 1WK; +26.19% YTD), NGX Consumer Goods Index (+3.99%; +3.12% 1WK; +37.6% YTD), NGX Pension Index (+2.37%; +0.32% 1WK; +17% YTD), NGX Main Board Index (+2.08%; +2.11% 1WK; +29.7% YTD), and NGX Banking Index (+2.01%; -1.77% 1WK; +0.51% YTD).
