Trading activities in the Nigerian Equities Market closed positive on Tuesday by 0.44% as the NGX-ASI increased to 65,488.67 from 65,202.41 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +27.78%.
Market capitalization increased by N157.58 billion to N35.842 trillion from N35.685 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, while the market turnover increased to N4.12 billion from N3.99 billion recorded at the close of the previous trading day.
At the end of today’s trading session, a total of 293,463,083 shares in 5,895 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 4,122,243,172.29, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Monday, August 21), today’s data shows 27% improvement in volume, 3% improvement in turnover, and 7% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 35.7 trillion.
In the aggregate, 115 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 16 gainers and 26 losers. Cornerstone Insurance Company led the gainers with 9.84% share price appreciation closing at NGN 1.34 per share, followed by Computer Warehouse Group (+9.74%), SCOA Nigeria (+9.37%) and Associated Bus Company (+8.33%). On the losing side, Nigerian Breweries came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 38.25 per share, followed by Chellarams (-10%), Sunu Assurances Nigeria (-10%) and John Holt (-8.81%). Transcorp Nigeria recorded the highest volume of 41.4 million traded shares, followed by Access Holdings (36.2m), Fidelity Bank (32.1m) and Omatek Ventures (15m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) climbed 286.26 (0.44%) points to close at 65,488.67, representing a 1-week gain of 0.86%, a 4-week loss of 0.76%, but an overall year-to-date gain of 27.78%. Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (+0.5%; +1.12% 1WK; +29.86% YTD), NGX Top 50 Index (-0.34%; +0.52% 1WK; +42.73% YTD), NGX Consumer Goods Index (+3.75%; +11.75% 1WK; +66.17% YTD), NGX Main Board Index (+0.94%; +1.39% 1WK; +20.61% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (+0.53%; -3.3% 1WK; +55.05% YTD), and NGX Industrial Index (+0.01%; +1.59% 1WK; +18.69% YTD).
