Investors lose N35.34bn as NGX-ASI declines by 0.09%
Nigeria’s Equities Market closed Negative on Thursday by 0.09% as the NGX-ASI decreased to 68,271.14 from 68,335.72 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +33.21%.
Market capitalization decreased by N35 billion to N37.400 trillion from N37.365 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, while the market turnover increased to N5.82 billion from N5.39 billion.
At the end of today’s trading session on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NGX), a total of 1,123,849,269 shares in 7,949 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 5,818,850,126.01, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Wednesday, September 20), today’s data shows 98% improvement in volume, 8% improvement in turnover, but 3% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 37.4 trillion.
In the aggregate, 119 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 20 gainers and 30 losers. John Holt led the gainers with 9.55% share price appreciation closing at NGN 1.72 per share, followed by Omatek Ventures (+9.52%), Daar Communications (+9.52%) and Mutual Benefits Assurance (+9.3%).
On the losing side, Oando came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.93% at NGN 13.15 per share, followed by Lasaco Assurance (-9.71%), Chams (-9.59%) and Northern Nigeria Flour Mills (-9.23%). Universal Insurance Company recorded the highest volume of 669 million traded shares, followed by Oando (101m), Japaul Gold and Ventures (43.7m) and Access Holdings (40.1m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) pared 64.58 (-0.09%) points to close at 68,271.14, representing a 1-week gain of 1.37%, a 4-week gain of 4.39%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 33.21%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 50 Index (+0.07%; +0.66% 1WK; +48.03% YTD), NGX Top 30 Index (-0.2%; +1.22% 1WK; +36.33% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (+0.26%; +2.18% 1WK; +52.86% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (+0.19%; -1.53% 1WK; +99.56% YTD), NGX Consumer Goods Index (+0.05%; +3.25% 1WK; +89.06% YTD), and NGX Main Board Index (+0.03%; +2.66% 1WK; +29.22% YTD).
