Investors record N293.35bn loss as NGX-ASI declines by 0.80%
Nigeria’s Equities Market closed negative on Tuesday by 0.80% as the NGX-ASI decreased to 66,760.20 from 67,296.18 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +30.26%.
Market capitalization decreased by N293.35 billion to N36.538 trillion from N36.832 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, while the market turnover increased to N11.00 billion from N8.3 billion.
At the end of today’s trading session, a total of 645,540,839 shares in 10,554 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 11,014,473,441.13, were traded.
Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Monday, September 11), today’s data shows 24% improvement in volume, 32% improvement in turnover, and 6% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 36.5 trillion.
In the aggregate, 116 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 16 gainers and 45 losers. Computer Warehouse Group led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 6.93 per share, followed by Chellarams (+10%), Vitafoam Nigeria (+9.78%) and Oando (+9.47%).
On the losing side, Academy Press came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 13.04% at NGN 1.80 per share, followed by E-Tranzact International (-10%), Regency Alliance Insurance (-10%) and Dangote Sugar Refinery (-9.96%). Transcorp Nigeria recorded the highest volume of 87.8 million traded shares, followed by United Bank for Africa (75.8m), Access Holdings (69.4m) and Fidelity Bank (48.3m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) dropped 535.98 (-0.80%) points to close at 66,760.20, representing a 1-week loss of 2.3%, a 4-week gain of 2.82%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 30.26%.
