Investors record N303.95bn loss as NGX-ASI declines by 0.53%
Nigeria’s Equities Market closed negative on Monday by 0.53% as the NGX-ASI decreased to 101,778.47 from 102,314.56 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +36.12%
Market capitalization decreased by N303.19 billion to N57,561.44 trillion from N57,864.64 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, Also, the market turnover decreased to N6.781 billion from N21.585 billion.
At the end of the first weekday, a total of 326,639,575 shares in 10,777 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 7,169,199,299.08, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Friday, April 12), today’s data shows 56% decline in volume, 67% decline in turnover, and 14% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 57.6 trillion.
In the aggregate, 125 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 10 gainers and 33 losers. UPDC led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 1.43 per share, followed by Morison Industries (+9.77%), N.E.M. Insurance Company (+8.9%) and Daar Communications (+7.69%).
On the losing side, Fidelity Bank came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 9.00 per share, followed by Jaiz Bank (-9.69%), RT Briscoe (-8.47%) and Guaranty Trust Holding (-7.73%). United Bank for Africa recorded the highest volume of 42.3 million traded shares, followed by Transcorp Nigeria (27.6m), Access Holdings (24.6m) and Oando (22.7m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) dropped 537.44 (-0.53%) points to close at 101,777.12, representing a 1-week loss of 2.31%, a 4-week loss of 0.26%, but an overall year-to-date gain of 36.11%.
