Investors record N463.7bn loss as NGX-ASI declined by 1.24%
Nigeria’s Equities Market closed negative on Monday by 1.24% as the NGX-ASI decreased to 67,296.18 from 68,143.34 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +31.31%.
Market capitalization decreased by N463.7 billion to N36.832 trillion from N37.295 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, while the market turnover remained unchanged at N8.3 billion.
At the end of the first weekday of trading, a total of 520,133,186 shares in 9,914 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 8,334,265,700.34, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Friday, September 8), today’s data shows 8% improvement in volume and 49% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 36.8 trillion.
In the aggregate, 119 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 16 gainers and 43 losers. Northern Nigeria Flour Mills led the gainers with 9.96% share price appreciation closing at NGN 13.25 per share, followed by Oando (+9.74%), Computer Warehouse Group (+9%) and NPF Microfinance Bank (+8.2%).
On the losing side, Learn Africa came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 15.64% at NGN 3.29 per share, followed by National Salt Company (-10%), E-Tranzact International (-10%) and Secure Electronic Technology (-10%). United Bank for Africa recorded the highest volume of 73.9 million traded shares, followed by Access Holdings (57.7m), Transcorp Nigeria (52.7m) and Zenith Bank (43.1m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) declined 847.16 (-1.24%) points to close at 67,296.18, representing a 1-week loss of 1.44%, a 4-week gain of 3.2%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 31.31%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (-1.4%; -1.8% 1WK; +34.28% YTD), NGX Top 50 Index (-2.67%; -3.97% 1WK; +47.31% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (-0.1%; -0.22% 1WK; +102.91% YTD), NGX Industrial Index (-0.28%; -0.62% 1WK; +20.04% YTD), NGX Main Board Index (-1.23%; -1.19% 1WK; +25.54% YTD), and NGX Premium Index (-1.27%; -1.75% 1WK; +49.79% YTD).
