Investors record N856 bn loss as NGXASI declines by 1.49%
Nigeria’s Equities Market closed negative on Tuesday by 1.49% as the NGX-ASI decreased to 103,110.15 from 104,674.67 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +37.89%.
Market capitalization decreased by N856.02 billion to N56.425 trillion from N57.282 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, Also, the market turnover decreased to N11.086 billion from N25,938 billion.
At the end of today’s trading session on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NGX), a total of 648,953,318 shares in 14,579 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 11,086,526,752.78, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Monday, January 29), today’s data shows 6% decline in volume, 57% decline in turnover, and 8% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 56.4 trillion.
In the aggregate, 120 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with seven gainers and 61 losers. UPDC led the gainers with 8.11% share price appreciation closing at NGN 2.00 per share, followed by Geregu Power (+4.61%), Wema Bank (+1.21%) and Ellah Lakes (+0.99%).
On the losing side, National Salt Company came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 68.40 per share, followed by Access Holdings (-10%), Sterling Bank (-10%) and AXA Mansard Insurance (-10%). Japaul Gold and Ventures recorded the highest volume of 59.8 million traded shares, followed by Transcorp Nigeria (52.1m), Access Holdings (46.8m) and United Bank for Africa (44.6m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) declined 1,564.52 (-1.49%) points to close at 103,110.15, representing a 1-week gain of 4.56%, a 4-week gain of 35.69%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 37.9%.
