Katsina police confirm assassination of commissioner, Rabe Nasir
Katsina State Police Command, Thursday, confirmed the assassination of the state’s Commissioner of Science and Technology, Dr. Rabe Nasir.
Nasir, 61, was assassinated in his home in Katsina’s Fatima Shema Quarters on Wednesday night, according to residents.
The gunmen must have taken advantage of his being alone to carry out the operation, according to the residents.
One of the residents said that ‘the gunmen stormed the house at night and attacked him while he was trying to flee. They assassinated him and imprisoned his body in one of the rooms, which we discovered today (Thursday).’
Late Nasir was a Special Adviser to Governor Aminu Masari on Science and Technology before he was appointed a commissioner.
A family source said security operatives have taken over the residence.
“The body of the slain commissioner is still inside the residence now,” the source stated per a media report.
Late Nasir had previously worked with the Department of State Security (DSS) as well as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFFC).
He was also a member of the House of Representatives between 2007 to 2011, representing Mani/Bindawa Federal Constituency.
Commissioner of Police in Katsina, Sanusi Buba, who confirmed the incident on Thursday, said: “The unfortunate incident occurred last night.”
Already, State Governor Aminu Masari and other top officials have paid a fact-finding visit to the residence on Thursday evening.
According to a senior police officer who requested anonymity, a suspect has been arrested in connection with the incident.
