Labour Party counsel clarifies Court of Appeal ruling sacking Delta governor

Labour Party (LP) has clarified on the judgement delivered by the Court of Appeal in Asaba, Thursday, following widespread reports that the appellant court had nullified the election of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, and Governor, Sheriff Francis Oborevwori.

Counsel to the Labour Party, Michaelson Hon Esq, said Thursday, that the court did not rule for the installment of its candidate, Ken Pela.

According to Mr. Michaelson, the court also did not sack Governor Oborevwori from office as claimed by many in viral reports.

Making the clarification, in a Twitter (now X) post, the lawyer said the did not declare the Labour Party governorship candidate in Delta state, Ken Pela as the winner of the March 18 governorship election.

The statement follows decision by the court which finally read its judgement in the case involving the Delta state LP governorship candidate and the candidate of the PDP.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared the PDP candidate as winner of the governorship election in Delta state, following which Ken Pela petitioned the Delta State Governorship Elections Tribunal challenging the declaration.

According to Michaelson, the victory at the Court of Appeal was only interlocutory, ‘which means all (parties to the dispute) will head back to the tribunal to continue the matter.’
