Lagos GAC confirms second-term ticket for Sanwo-Olu
Highest decision making organ of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) party in Lagos, the Governance Advisory Council (GAC) has approved a second-term ticket for Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
Before now, the group was undecided over Sanwo-Olu’s second term bid, as it debated between finding another candidate or sticking with the incumbent.
Observers have posited that the chequered performance of Sanwo-Olu in office, if given a second chance, may scuttle the APC’s bid to retain control of the state, even as many within the fold also claimed that the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had concluded plans to offer the politician another platform to actualise his second term ambitions.
Confirming the decision of the GAC, Monday, the Chief Press Secretary to the Lagos Governor, Gboyega Akosile, confirmed the development in a tweet, Monday evening, via his verified Twitter handle (@gboyegaakosile).
Akosile added that his principal is ‘staying through to the developmental agenda of Lagos.’
“Lagos GAC gives nod to Governor @jidesanwoolu ‘s second term bid. The Governance Advisory Council at a meeting in Lagos today gave pass mark to Sanwo-Olu for staying through to the developmental agenda of Lagos.
“Congratulations dear boss!”
An official announcement is expected from the Lagos chapter of the APC soon.
It is, however, not yet known the reaction to this news by some top members of the Lagos APC who have been working to scuttle Sanwo-Olu’s re-emergence as governor in the state.
