Massive promotion at police, NCoS, as over 40, 000 personnel move up in ranks
Over 40, 000 personnel of the both the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) have been promoted in a development announced, Thursday, by their respective managements.
According to the Nigeria police, a total of 31,465 personnel have been promoted in ranks, while the NCoS announced that 17,636 officers moved up the ladder.
Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Usman Alkali Baba, promoted a total of 31,465 policemen comprising 24,991 from Sergeants to Inspectors, 194 from Corporal to Sergeant, and 6,280 from Constable to Corporal.
CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Spokesperson, in a statement, Thursday, quoted the IGP Usman a explaining that the promotion was part of his manpower development policy targeted at promoting deserving police officers on the basis of competence, qualification, and length of service.
This is just as the IGP charged the affected officers to ‘add more pep in promoting the lofty principles and values of modern policing and discharge their duties as expected of them in line with the provisions of the extant laws.’
The police chief, in the statement, also congratulated two Assistant Inspectors-General of Police on the conferment of national honours on them.
“The very senior police officers include AIG Aishatu Abubakar, mni who was conferred with the award of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON), and AIG Olofu Tony Adejoh, who was conferred with the individual award of National Productivity Order of Merit Award (NPOM) by the National Productivity Centre, Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment on the approval of the immediate past President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.
“The Inspector-General of Police charges the Senior Officers to bring their experience gathered over time and the well-deserved national recognition to bear in their national policing duties,” the statement read.
Meanwhile, the NCoS in a statement confirming the promotion of 17,636 prison personnel, signed by its spokesperson, Umar Abubakar ANIPR, Thursday, said the development was announced in a bid to motivate officers and men of the service ‘for efficient service delivery.’
The Civil Defence Corrections Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), as well as, the Controller General of Corrections (CGC) released details of the promotion which saw of 17,636 officers and men across board, move up in ranks in its 2022 promotion exercise.
“In a letter number CDCFIB/S.33/VOL.VIII dated 24th May, 2023 from CDCFIB 10,131 officers from the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Corrections to Assistant Controller of Corrections benefited from the exercise. On the other hand, the Controller General of Corrections (CGC), Haliru Nababa FICMC, MFR, mni approved the promotion of 7,505 junior officers.
“In his congratulatory message, Nababa, charged the beneficiaries to see the elevation as an opportunity to put in their best in the discharge of their duties.The CG admonished the beneficiaries to note that promotion comes with additional responsibility; hence, it is expected of them to brace up to the tasks ahead. He also called on those that did not benefit this time not to feel bad as more opportunities abound in the future.
“The Corrections boss reiterated that the Service will not relent in its commitment towards improving the welfare of staff as well as promoting reformation and rehabilitation of inmates in custody,” the statement read.
