Mayhem, as truck crushes over one dozen school children in Lagos area
Ojodu area of Lagos was thrown into mayhem as an angry mob went on rampage, Tuesday afternoon, when a truck ran into a group of school children killing a yet-to-be confirmed number of them.
Eyewitness account put the number of dead school children at between 13 and 18.
The accident was said to have occurred when the brakes on the truck failed as the driver lost control, ramming into the school children.
The children were said to be returning from school when they met their untimely death.
The accident happened along Isheri Road, just before the Ojodu Police Station but businesses along the road have shut down while vehicular traffic is grounded.
Witnesses said the truck driver ran into the children just outside Ojodu Grammar School and sped away.
“He was pursued and caught around Ogba and was brought back to the station. That is why the youth are attacking the police station.”
As of the time of filing this report, angry youth had vandalised trucks around the area and are throwing stones into the police station.
Confirming the incident the Lagos Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, said the exact number of casualties is still sketchy, although it is believed that about 15 students are feared dead.
After hitting the schoolchildren, the police boss explained that the truck driver made attempts to escape, but was chased by police operatives before being arrested.
Upon his arrest, he was detained at the Ojodu Police Station, Lagos; where an angry mob tried to lynch him but were resisted by the police.
