Mbah promises to improve Enugu economy if elected

Enugu State Gubernatorial candidate of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2023 governorship election, Dr Peter Mbah, has promised to improve on the economy of Enugu state if elected.
Mbah specifically said he would grow the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the state from current 4.4 billion dollars to 30 billion dollars when he assumes office as the Governor of the State.
He made the pledge at a world press congress on the unveiling of his campaign manifesto held at Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) secretariat Enugu on Thursday.
He said: “our plan is to embark on inclusive economic development which will be achieved through key targeted policies and programmes.
“We will grow the GDP of Enugu state sevenfold in the next 8 years from the current level of $4.4 billion in 2022 to $30 billion by 2031.
“This will be achieved through targeted policy incentives that enhance public private investments in key growth enabling sectors, energy and natural resources development, Agro -allied industrialization and rural development, private sector development, Integrated productive infrastructure development.
“This growth enhancing sectoral focus will be underpinned by key enablers, inclusive and transparent governance, human capital development/investments in formal and vocational education, science and technology, and apprenticeship programmes.
“Our aim is to achieve a zero per rent rate in the poverty headcount index through government enables private sector development. Reduce the percentage population in abject poverty to zero percent from the current levels by 2031,” he said
According to him, these programmes will make Enugu one of the top 3 state in Nigeria in terms of Gross Domestic Product and achieve a zero percent rate in the poverty headcount index by 2031.
He further explained that in order to archive the rapid growth in GDP, his administration “we will develop oil and gas fields, accelerate investments in renewable energy-biogas, solar, wind and hydropower.”
“We shall develop wind and solar energy farms in key universities, colleges, hospitals, health centres, key public institutions and power the environs,” he further added.
