‘Name bandits, Boko Haram financiers first,’ Nigerians slam Buhari on Igboho, Kanu’s sponsor at NASS
President Muhammadu Buhari’s Independence Day address, Friday, has not gone down well with Nigerians who have taken to social media to vent their spleen over parts of the October 1 speech to the nation.
President Buhari had during his Presidential broadcast to celebrate Nigeria’s Independence said a member of the 9th National Assembly has been identified as sponsor of the imprisoned leader of the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
Although Buhari did not mention the name of the National Assembly member, he, however said investigation is ongoing.
“Nigeria is for all of us. Its unity is not negotiable. And its ultimate success can only be achieved if we all come together with a common goal of having peace and prosperity for our nation.
” We shall continue to work on dialogue based solutions to address legitimate grievances. But we remain ready to take decisive actions against secessionist agitators and their sponsors who threaten our national security.
“The recent arrests of Nnamdi Kanu and Sunday Adeyemo, and the ongoing investigations being conducted have revealed certain high-profile financiers behind these individuals. We are vigorously pursuing these financiers including one identified as a serving member of the national assembly.
“This is a clear example of how people abandon their national leadership positions for their selfish gains. Instead of preaching unity, they are funding and misleading our youth to conduct criminal acts that sometimes lead to unfortunate and unnecessary loss of lives and property.
“As the so-called leaders run abroad to hide, our innocent youths are misled and left in the streets to fight for their senseless and destructive causes,” Buhari had said.
However, Nigerians have responded to the President’s claims of serving members of the National Assembly sponsoring the IPOB leader, as they slammed him for making the allegation as, according to them, he should first make public the names of already identified sponsors of terrorist organization in the country, the Boko Haram, as well as, those funding activities of bandits and killer herdsmen in parts of the country.
Using various social media platforms to express their disapproval of President Buhari’s claims, many insist the allegation is diversionary, while others said it amounted to ‘chasing shadows.’
Here are a few of the respondents:
Abananeme Sharawn: “You can’t find the sponsors of Boko Haram that caused havoc on Nigeria. You are only interested in a man who hasn’t killed anybody.
Peter Eze: “Story for the gods, have you identified all the governors and senators from the north that is sponsoring your kinsmen herdsmen, Boko Haram and bandits? I don’t just know why we like fooling ourselves I public.

Oliver Udeagha: “Expose bandits and Boko Haram sponsors in your cabinet and you know them. If your government is doing well there will be no need for secessionists. But this government is full of hate, tribalism, nepotism and corruption.
Sunday Umoh: “This diversionary insanity cannot make head ways. Do the right thing and free Nigeria from bondages of terrorism and religious Mafioso.

Abiodun Francis: “Mr President, don’t use that as a divergence to conceal the truth behind the sponsors and members of bandits killing Fulani herdsmen, Boko Haram, and ISWAP members that were secretly released on your order from police custody. Pls publish their names as you would do for sponsors of IPOB.
Job Godwin: “Also who invented the officially pampered Fulani bandits, Fulani herdsmen, and Boko Haram? Abeg, we no wan hear story your government is untrustworthy.
Isa Mamman: “You’re just beating around the bush, about Miyetti Allah. All the Igbo who happen to be armed robbers and kidnappers, are they sponsored by Ohanaeze? You are just criminals by birth.
Adeola Adido: “The question is when are you going to name the sponsors of Boko Haram, bandits, kidnappers and insurgents? Not the agitators for good governance. Enough of this hypocrisy Mr Presido.”
