National Anti-Multiple Taxation Scheme: NACCIMA assures ALGON of implementation support
The Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA) has assured the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) of support in the determination to ensure the effective implementation of the National Anti-Multiple Taxation Scheme (NAMTAXS) and the National Transit Insurance Scheme (NATIS.)
The Director General NACCIMA, Amb. Ayo Olukanmi who gave this assurance while delivering a goodwill message at the official inauguration and launch of the two schemes in Abuja on Wednesday described NAMTAXS as a welcomed move and innovative step in the determined bid to eradicate multiple Taxation unauthorised road blocks, illegal taxes, levies and fees harassment all of which disrupt businesses across the nation.
He said “NACCIMA welcomes the National Transit Insurance Scheme (NATIS); an insurance arrangement designed to enable traders, farmers Manufacturers, miners, hauliers and market women across the nation and guarantee safety of their goods in transit and also minimise losses in the event of mishap on roads deplorable roads across the country.”
The official inauguration of the two Schemes accompanied by unveiling of the safety, Security Intelligence, Logistics and Emergency Rescue sticker was conducted by the Minister for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Senator (Dr) George Akume.
Amb. Ayo also indicated that as the premier National Chambers, NACCIMA composed of around 61 City, State Chambers, hundreds of corporate members as well as over 30, 000 enterprises as members, spread across all corners of the Country.
“NACCIMA was a natural ally and well placed to work closely with ALGON in the implementation of the NAMTAXS and NATIS. This was because the success of the Schemes is of great interest and benefit to its members.”
He stressed further that ALGON should consider NACCIMA as a strategic partner in ALGON’s nationwide sensitisation and awareness campaign to educate haulage operators, logistics companies about the NAMTAXS&NATIS program.
The DG ALGON, Hajiya Binta Bello and other officials expressed appreciation for NACCIMA honouring the invitation to the event and welcomed the idea of working closely with NACCIMA on the Scheme while she promised that the appropriate unit of ALGON will reach out and work closely with Chambers across the country.
“This collaboration is to facilitate proper understanding of the Operational modalities of the Schemes including the operationalisation of the emergency special short code 7744 already established. The short code can be reached via any Nigerian Mobile Network and it will provide regular assistance and support to drivers in the event of attack from hoodlums, illegal tax extortion, harassment, and accidents.
She also indicated that effective governance at local government level will truly positively impact on lives and wellbeing of the people and indeed successful implementation of the Schemes will demonstrate the capacity of local Government to make contributions at the subnational and grass roots level to the ease of doing business in line with Executive order 001.
