NCAA automates airline operators’ certification, as NAMA, NSIB agree on airspace security
Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) says it has adopted automated procedures for processing Airline Operators’ Certificates (AOCs) for intending and existing operators after several years of processing them manually.
This is also as the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) and the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance airspace security in Nigeria.
A statement signed by the Director-General of the Civil Aviation Authority, Capt. Musa Nuhu, said the NCAA has adopted electronic processes for AOC acquisition and directed all intending airlines and existing carriers to follow the new procedures.
Nuhu said that the regulatory body has enhanced AOC Operations Specifications (Op.Specs) for all current AOC holders.
According to him, the directive was contained in an All Operator Letter referenced NCAA/DG/AIR/11/16/370, dated August 18, 2023, and is applicable to all AOC holders certified by the authority.
“These new and enhanced multi-paged Op.Specs contain the authorisations, conditions, limitations and approvals issued by the Authority in accordance with the standards which are applicable to operations and maintenance conducted by the AOC holder.
“In view of the above directive, all AOC holders are required to electronically complete the appropriate pages of the attached Op.Specs and return same to the NCAA via only email addresses indicated below on or before August 23, 2023,” the NCAA statement read.
Meanwhile, aviation agencies; the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) and the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) have reached an agreement aimed at enhancing airspace security in the country.
The agreement aims to strengthen the relationship between NSIB and NAMA, enhancing information and data sharing during incidents and ensuring quality and timeliness of air mishaps investigation.
The MoU emphasized the mutual agreement between agencies, promoting cooperation, honesty, respect, openness, and professionalism in all transactions.
The two agencies signed a non-binding MoU, agreeing to perform their respective functions in line with the agreement’s values and principles.
The agreement was signed at NSIB Abuja headquarters by Bureau Director General Akin Olateru and NAMA Managing Director/CEO Odunowo Tayib Mohammed.
“Collaboration remains the centre point of our drive towards enthroning safety in the aviation industry. We remain committed to promoting safety in the aviation industry to the point of attaining and maintaining zero accidents.
”We, however, cannot do it alone; that is why we have chosen the path of collaboration with agencies and institutions with similar objectives,” the NSIB DG said, just as he commended NAMA for rising to the occasion by signing the agreement.
