NCoS announces major shake-up, as heads of five directorates, 147 senior officers, others affected
In line with developments in other para-military organisations of government which have recently effected major shake-ups in their structures, the Controller-General, Nigerian Correctional Services (NCoS), Haliru Nababa, has announced the redeployment of 170 officers.
Nababa explained that the move is to inject new ideas and promote effective coordination of activities for enhanced service delivery.
Similar announcement have also been made by the Nigerian Immigration Services (NIS), as well as, the Nigeria Police Force.
Earlier, Nigerian Armed Forces units have also announced major shake-ups.
The development at the NCoS saw Deputy Controller-General M. Tukur take over the Directorate of Non-Custodial Measures while DCG S. Nwakuche, who hitherto superintended over the NCM Directorate, has taken over the Operations Directorate.
According to a statement issued, Sunday, by the Corrections Service Spokesman, Francis Enobore, DCG M. Melchizedek has now taken over the Directorate of Health and Welfare as DCG T. Oladipupo retires from service.
“Also, DCG (covering duties) EA Oputa has moved from the Directorate of Training and Staff Development to head the Directorate of Inmates’ Training and Productivity while ACG LA Showumi who was the Zone A Coordinator now takes over the Directorate of TSD as DCG (covering duties). ACG Uche Nwobi is moved to Lagos to take over as Zone A Coordinator.”
The statement said the redeployment also affected 21 Controllers of Corrections and 13 Deputy Controllers of Corrections.
While some were deployed to take over state commands and custodial centres, others were assigned new responsibilities both at the national headquarters and state levels.
The Controller-General charged all officers and men concerned to report at their new posts and hit the ground running, “giving no space for indolence that could further compromise the sacredness of the custodial centres.”
He noted that the measure was not only a response strategy to the security challenges confronting the NCoS but imperative in evolving new ideas that would set the Service on a higher pedestal.
