Newly elected Chairman of Abia State Chapter of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Elder Amah Abraham Nnanna, has declared that the party would be rebranded to push out Labour Party (LP) and recapture power in Abia in 2027.
But while in opposition, Abraham has vowed that Abia PDP would run the most vibrant “Shadow government” in Africa.
Nnanna spoke on Monday, November 11, 2024, shortly after the inauguration of the new State Working Committee (SWC) at the Onyerubi Close party secretariat in Umuahia.
“Today, we make a bold statement that this is a new beginning, a beginning that will usher in a new, rebranded PDP, that will reposition itself to take over power, by the special grace of God, and return PDP to power by 2027.
“We are aware that that is going to come with a lot of sacrifices on our part. And as a management team of our party, we are committed to making sure that we make those sacrifices. And we are mindful of the challenges that await us,” Abraham said in his inaugural speech.
He said that the new Abia SWC would keep the current administration on its toes and ensure that it delivers good governance to the people of the state.
“In the next few days, we will unveil a brand new shadow government that will take over the responsibility of running the most proactive shadow government in any region of Africa.
“We will have equivalent of all the ministries, and appoint commissioners that will run them, as well as other appointments, people who will be saddled with the responsibility of interfacing with the government of the day and keeping them in check and making sure that at all times, that they deliver nothing short of good governance to the people of Abia State. We are committed to that,” he added.
The Abia PDP Chairman used the opportunity to dissolve the Party’s current Elders Forum, announcing that Chief Onyema Ugochukwu, pioneer Chairman of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), as the new head of the body.
“Today, we are starting, as a people, by dissolving our Elders’ Forum and thanking all those who have served in that forum and wishing them well in their future endeavours. It is my pleasure to announce to us that Chief Onyem a Ugochukwu shall provide the new leadership of the Elders’ Forum. Other members of that Elders Forum will be unveiled as soon as possible.” He said.
He also revealed that the SWC would put in place, a reconciliation committee that would work to bring back to the fold, aggrieved members who left the party.
“In the next 24 hours, we are also going to unveil another Committee that will be saddled with the responsibility of reconciliation. I want to use this opportunity to inform us that the former Deputy Governor of this state, Sir ude Oko Chuwkwu, is a member of the National Reconciliation Committee. I have interfaced with him and of course, he has promised me to make sure that committee works in Abia.
“So what we intend to do is to interface with all those who have left the party and make sure that they come back. A good number of them have already reached out to us. They have already congratulated my person and several of the newly elected SWC and other state executive members. They have congratulated us and have also indicated their interest to come back to the party,” he explained.
He promised to provide a goal-oriented leadership, saying that “in the days ahead, I promise you that you are going to see Abia PDP at its best, adding, “God bless all of us as we embark on this very important journey.”
