The New Motor Tyre and Tube Market Nkpor popularly known as ‘New Tyre’ is not in the class of the big markets in the commercial city of Onitsha, but there is something so special that distinguished the market from others.
That, to be precise, is the Godly oriented character and behaviour of the traders in the market in doing business with prayer and showing love to one another, showing love to the needy in the society at large.
In most cases traders in Onitsha are overwhelmed with their business runs to the extents that they don’t have time to involve themselves in activities that are not related to their businesses, but unlike that, the New Tyre traders have time to pray and do charity works.
Every year since 2008, they make contributions as it pleases one to help the needy such as the poor, the sick, the disabled and all forms of the disadvantaged in the society.
The items the traders offer the needy every year includes cash, food stuff and provisions. No tasking, they make contributions on individual basis to make up the content of what they dish out each year.
The beneficiaries are mostly drawn from Motherless Babies Homes, Orphanage Homes, Homes and School of the Blind, Destitute Homes, the widows and street beggars who take home cash, bags of rice, semolina, noodles, tubers of yam and provisions.
In addition to the needy, the poor and the disabled who benefit from the gesture, traders in the market who have misfortune either by falling sick, encountering road accident or failure in business including aged ones who can no longer cope with the stress of doing business also benefit and to the Glory of God they too smile home with cash, bag of rice bags of semolina, yam tubers and provisions.
