NEWMAP identifies 960 erosion sites in Anambra

Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP) has identified a total of 960 sites being ravaged by erosion in Anambra State.
The Project Coordinator Mr. Michael Ivenso who disclosed this when he met with Governor Chukwuma Soludo in Awka on Tuesday, said out of the 960 sites, only 13 has received intervention.
Ivenso who met with the Governor in company of other countries’ representatives, said with the collaboration of Anambra State Government, NEWMAP was prepared to tackle erosion menace in some communities in the state.
The Governor, who was represented by his Deputy Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, assured of the State’s readiness to cooperate with NEWMAP.
He said Anambra government under Governor Soludo was committed to ensuring that the existential threat of erosion in the state was reduced to the barest minimum if not completely eradicated.
