NGX : ASI closed at 50,835.95 points to reflect a growth of 1.42%
The NGX closed on a positive note amidst sell-offs and buy-interests as the benchmark All-Share Index (ASI) appreciated by 142 basis point.
The NGX ASI closed at 50,835.95 points, to reflect a growth of 1.42% from the previous trading day and a Year-to-Date (YTD) return of 19.01%. Meanwhile, the market capitalization grew by N382.52 billion.
At the end of today’s trading session , a total of 462,595,244 shares in 6,801 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 8,305,394,458.37, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Wednesday, May 4), today’s data shows 31% decline in volume, 39% improvement in turnover, but 6% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 27.4 trillion.
In the aggregate, 111 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 32 gainers and 22 losers. McNichols led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 0.77 per share, followed by Guinness Nigeria (+10%), Nigerian Breweries (+9.95%) and Fidson Healthcare (+9.93%). On the losing side, Transcorp Hotels came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.09% at NGN 4.50 per share, followed by Multiverse Mining & Exploration (-8.7%), Mutual Benefits Assurance (-7.69%) and FTN Cocoa Processors (-7.69%). FCMB Group recorded the highest volume of 139 million traded shares, followed by Zenith Bank (29.4m), Transcorp Nigeria (26.4m) and United Bank for Africa (20.7m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) increased by 709.54 (1.42%) points to close at 50,835.95, representing a 1-week gain of 4.67%, a 4-week gain of 8.52%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 19.01%. Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (+1.58%; +4.71% 1WK; +12.88% YTD), NGX Top 50 Index (+0.79%; +4.03% 1WK; +11.64% YTD), NGX Consumer Goods Index (+2.36%; +8.57% 1WK; +10.91% YTD), NGX Premium Index (+2.19%; +3.68% 1WK; +17.83% YTD), NGX Pension Index (+0.95%; +2.86% 1WK; +15.89% YTD), and NGX Insurance Index (+0.87%; -0.87% 1WK; -5.41% YTD).
