Equities market closed on a positive note, as NGXASI appreciated by 2.16% to close at 42,716.44 basis points as against  +0.01% appreciation recorded previously. Its Year-to-Date (YTD) returns currently stands at +6.07%.        

Market breadth closed positive as NESTLE led 31 Gainers as against 15 Losers topped by NEM at the end of today’s session – an improved performance when compared with previous outlook.

Market turnover closed positive as volume up by +24.89% as against +99.78% uptick recorded in the previous session. FBNH, ZENITHBANK and JAIZBANK were the most active to boost market turnover.  NESTLE  and ZENITHBANK topped market value list.

NESTLE leads the list of active stocks that recorded impressive volume spike at the end of today’s session.

 At the end of the last weekday of trading on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NGX), a total of 455,219,499 shares in 2,829 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 9,884,031,751.05, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Thursday, December 30), today’s data shows 26% improvement in volume, 436% improvement in turnover, but 22% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 22.3 trillion.

In the aggregate, 97 NGX equities participated in trading, ending with 31 gainers and 15 losers. Nestle Nigeria led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 1,556.50 per share, followed by Royal Exchange (+10%), UPDC Real Estate Investment Trust (+9.88%) and Skyway Aviation Handling Co. (+8.61%). On the losing side, N.E.M. Insurance Company came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 4.50 per share, followed by Wema Bank (-8.86%), Jaiz Bank (-5.08%) and Champion Breweries (-4.08%). FBN Holdings recorded the highest volume of 77.9 million traded shares, followed by Zenith Bank (70.2m), Jaiz Bank (46.5m) and Sovereign Trust Insurance (39.5m).

Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) soared 903.17 (2.16%) points to close at 42,716.44, representing a 1-week gain of 1.12%, a 4-week gain of 0.6%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 6.07%. Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Premium Index (+3%; +2.97% 1WK; +20.08% YTD), NGX Top 30 Index (+2.67%; +1.35% 1WK; +5.01% YTD), NGX Top 50 Index (+1.79%; +1.69% 1WK; +3.93% YTD), NGX Consumer Goods Index (+6.69%; +6.36% 1WK; +2.78% YTD), NGX Lotus Islamic Index (+4.91%; +3.09% 1WK; +5.74% YTD), and NGX Pension Index (+2.15%; +1.87% 1WK; +16.96% YTD).
