NGX: Bullish activities persists as ASI increases by 35%
Trading activities in the Nigeria Equities Market ended bullish on Thursday as the NGX-ASI increased by 0.35% to close at 51,355.74 compared to 51,178.41 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +0.20%.
Similarly, the market capitalization increased by N 92.79 billion to N27.9633 trillion from N27.8706 trillion recorded at the previous trading day’s close, while the market turnover decreased to N5.05 billion from N3.98 billion.
At the end of today’s trading session on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NGX), a total of 600,778,307 shares in 4,309 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 5,054,341,863.24, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Wednesday, April 19), today’s data shows 177% improvement in volume, 150% improvement in turnover, and 23% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 28 trillion.
In the aggregate, 107 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 28 gainers and 16 losers. Transcorp Hotels led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 7.15 per share, followed by Access Holdings (+10%), Transcorp Nigeria (+9.87%) and Fidelity Bank (+9.85%).
On the losing side, Champion Breweries came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.96% at NGN 4.43 per share, followed by Jaiz Bank (-8.42%), Cutix (-4.35%) and Caverton Offshore Support Group (-2.91%).
Transcorp Nigeria recorded the highest volume of 241 million traded shares, followed by Access Holdings (152m), United Bank for Africa (39.2m) and Fidelity Bank (22.4m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) climbed 146.73 (0.35%) points to close at 51,355.74, representing a 1-week loss of 1.13%, a 4-week loss of 6.46%, but an overall year-to-date gain of 0.2%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 50 Index (+0.79%; -0.45% 1WK; +3.16% YTD), NGX Top 30 Index (+0.45%; -0.54% 1WK; +0.35% YTD), NGX Banking Index (+2.9%; -2.44% 1WK; +3.17% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (+2.07%; +1.46% 1WK; +3.65% YTD), NGX Pension Index (+1.46%; +1.17% 1WK; +4.23% YTD), and NGX Premium Index (+0.46%; -2.33% 1WK; +9.02% YTD).
