NGX: Equities market closed positive as volume moved up by +18.71%
Market turnover closed positive as volume moved up by +18.71% as against +12.41% uptick recorded in the previous session. JBERGER, ACCESS and UBCAP were the most active to boost market turnover. JBERGER and NB topped market value list.
Access Bank recorded the highest volume of 41.9 million traded shares, followed by United Capital (39.2m), Sovereign Trust Insurance (23.3m) and Transcorp Nigeria (21.9m) as equities market closed on a positive note, as NGXASI appreciated by +0.08% to close at 47,140.48 basis points as against -0.01% depreciation recorded previously. Its Year-to-Date (YTD) return currently stands at +10.36%.
Market breadth closed positive as LEARNAFRCA led 29 Gainers as against 15 Losers topped by PHARMDEKO at the end of today’s session an improved performance when compared with previous outlook.
At the end of the last weekday of trading on the NGX, a total of 344,695,438 shares in 4,599 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 4,403,491,953.79, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Thursday, February 17), today’s data shows 4% decline in volume, 32% decline in turnover, but 8% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 25.4 trillion.
In the aggregate, 117 NGX equities participated in trading, ending with 29 gainers and 15 losers. Learn Africa led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 2.20 per share, followed by NCR Nigeria (+9.92%), Honeywell Flour Mill (+9.84%) and Academy Press (+9.82%). On the losing side, Pharma-Deko came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 8.67% at NGN 1.79 per share, followed by FTN Cocoa Processors (-5.41%), May & Baker Nigeria (-5.39%) and Cornerstone Insurance Company (-4.76%).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) inched up 37.84 (0.08%) points to close at 47,140.48, representing a 1-week loss of 0.13%, a 4-week gain of 2.57%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 10.36%. Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (+0.14%; +0.05% 1WK; +4.88% YTD), NGX Top 50 Index (+0.13%; +0.21% 1WK; +3.44% YTD), NGX Premium Index (-0.08%; -0.29% 1WK; +5.16% YTD), NGX Consumer Goods Index (+1.05%; +2.35% 1WK; +0.56% YTD), NGX Pension Index (+0.18%; +0.16% 1WK; +4.96% YTD), and NGX Banking Index (+0.08%; -0.74% 1WK; +10.84% YTD).
