NGX: Equities market closes flat as investors lose N889.1m
Nigerian Equities Market closed flat as the key market indicator declined by 1.63 bps amid negative market breadth.
The NGX All-Share Index closed flat at 55,603.94 basis points as against a 0.14% gain recorded previously to close at 55,605.57 basis points at the end of the last trading session. In Naira terms, the NGX Market CAP records a N889.07mn loss.
At the end of today’s trading session, a total of 159,460,465 shares in 4,187 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 2,475,927,333.46, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Monday, March 6), today’s data shows 29% improvement in volume and 3% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 30.3 trillion.
In the aggregate, 112 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 10 gainers and 22 losers. Caverton Offshore Support Group led the gainers with 9.62% share price appreciation closing at NGN 1.14 per share, followed by UAC of Nigeria (+7.6%), Wapic Insurance (+5%) and AXA Mansard Insurance (+4.5%).
On the losing side, MRS Oil Nigeria came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 31.05 per share, followed by NCR Nigeria (-9.88%), Multiverse Mining & Exploration (-9.85%) and Cutix (-9.09%). Transcorp Nigeria recorded the highest volume of 14.4 million traded shares, followed by Zenith Bank (13.3m), Guaranty Trust Holding (11.9m) and United Bank for Africa (11.1m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) pared 1.63 points to close at 55,603.94, representing a 1-week loss of 0.36%, a 4-week gain of 2.4%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 8.49%.
