NGX: Equities Market gain N49.85bn as ASI appreciates by +0.18%
Nigerian Equities Market halted losing streak as market sentiment turned green at the close of trading on Friday trading day.
The NGX All-Share index inched up by +0.18% to close at 52,908.24 basis points as against -0.30% loss recorded at the end of the previous trading session. In Naira terms, the NGX Market CAP records N49.85bn gain.
At the end of the last weekday of trading a total of 282,969,514 shares in 4,245 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 3,371,652,229.46, were traded.
Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Thursday, June 2), today’s data shows 3% improvement in volume, 16% decline in turnover, and 15% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 28.5 trillion.
In the aggregate, 112 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 22 gainers and 16 losers. N.E.M. Insurance Company led the gainers with 9.95% share price appreciation closing at NGN 4.20 per share, followed by Chams (+9.09%), Champion Breweries (+8.06%) and Nigerian Breweries (+7.06%).
On the losing side, UPDC Real Estate Investment Trust came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.33% at NGN 3.40 per share, followed by Wapic Insurance (-4.55%), UAC of Nigeria (-4.35%) and Caverton Offshore Support Group (-3.36%).
UAC of Nigeria recorded the highest volume of 73.9 million traded shares, followed by FBN Holdings (53.1m), Transcorp Nigeria (43.9m) and UPDC Real Estate Investment Trust (12.4m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) inched up 68.03 (0.13%) points to close at 52,908.24, representing a 1-week loss of 2.18%, a 4-week gain of 3.87%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 23.86%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 50 Index (+0.37%; -2.57% 1WK; +10.4% YTD), NGX Top 30 Index (+0.17%; -3.1% 1WK; +11.62% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (+1.41%; +0.83% 1WK; -8.24% YTD), NGX Banking Index (+0.95%; -0.73% 1WK; +4.5% YTD), NGX Consumer Goods Index (+0.57%; -2.51% 1WK; +9.89% YTD), and NGX Oil & Gas Index (+0.53%; -0.45% 1WK; +59.13% YTD).
