NGX: Equities Market records N133.43bn gain as ASI appreciates by 0.50%
Nigerian Equities Market closed positive as the key market indicator advanced by 244.98 bps amid positive market breadth
The NGX All-Share Index advanced by 0.50 to close at 49,233.02 basis points as against a 0.28% gain recorded previously to close at 48,988.04 basis points at the end of the last trading session. In Naira terms, the NGX Market CAP records a N133.43bn gain.
At the end of today’s trading session on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NGX), a total of 222,775,126 shares in 2,756 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 2,129,161,787.68, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Wednesday, December 14), today’s data shows 153% improvement in volume, 27% improvement in turnover, but 3% decline in deals.
The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 26.8 trillion.
In the aggregate, 107 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 20 gainers and eight losers.
CAP led the gainers with 9.88% share price appreciation closing at NGN 17.80 per share, followed by Ardova (+9.51%), Cornerstone Insurance Company (+8.33%) and Thomas Wyatt Nigeria (+8.33%). On the losing side, McNichols came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 0.54 per share, followed by Geregu Power (-8.11%), Chams (-4.35%) and Guaranty Trust Holding (-1.91%).
Sterling Bank recorded the highest volume of 153 million traded shares, followed by Guaranty Trust Holding (10.5m), Zenith Bank (8.69m) and FBN Holdings (4.97m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) moved up 244.98 (0.5%) points to close at 49,233.02, representing a 1-week gain of 1.79%, a 4-week gain of 11.86%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 15.26%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (+0.66%; +2.11% 1WK; +3.58% YTD), NGX Top 50 Index (+0.3%; +0.98% 1WK; -3.23% YTD), NGX Premium Index (+1.25%; +0.36% 1WK; +12.36% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (+1.07%; +1.02% 1WK; -15.83% YTD), NGX Banking Index (+0.72%; +2.51% 1WK; +1.01% YTD), and NGX Oil & Gas Index (+0.62%; +0.63% 1WK; +29.88% YTD).
