NGX: Equities Market records N45.36bn gain as ASI appreciates by 0.17%;
Nigerian Equities Market closed positive as the key market indicator advanced by 83.27 bps amid positive market breadth
The NGX All-Share Index advanced by 0.17 to close at 49,316.29 basis points as against a 0.50% gain recorded previously to close at 49,233.02 basis points at the end of the last trading session. In Naira terms, the NGX Market CAP records a N45.36billion gain.
At the end of the last weekday of trading , a total of 103,710,207 shares in 3,280 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 2,007,231,003.73, were traded.
Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Thursday, December 15), today’s data shows 53% decline in volume, 6% decline in turnover, but 19% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Exchange is NGN 26.9 trillion.
In the aggregate, 104 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 17 gainers and 11 losers. UPDC led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 0.99 per share, followed by PZ Cussons Nigeria (+9.73%), Thomas Wyatt Nigeria (+9.62%) and Champion Breweries (+9.33%).
On the losing side, Academy Press came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.7% at NGN 1.21 per share, followed by Honeywell Flour Mill (-3.64%), FTN Cocoa Processors (-3.13%) and FCMB Group (-2.86%). Zenith Bank recorded the highest volume of 14.1 million traded shares, followed by Guaranty Trust Holding (13.6m), Ecobank Transnational (11.2m) and United Bank for Africa (7.73m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) inched up 83.27 (0.17%) points to close at 49,316.29, representing a 1-week gain of 0.89%, a 4-week gain of 10.84%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 15.45%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 50 Index (+0.41%; +0.96% 1WK; -2.82% YTD), NGX Top 30 Index (+0.1%; +0.97% 1WK; +3.68% YTD), NGX Banking Index (+1.09%; +2.87% 1WK; +2.11% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (+0.56%; +0.47% 1WK; -15.36% YTD), NGX Pension Index (+0.46%; +0.92% 1WK; +6.66% YTD), and NGX Main Board Index (+0.17%; +1.23% 1WK; +25.1% YTD).
