NGX: Equity market depreciates N41.24bn as ASI dips by -0.16% to open the week negative
Equities market closed on a negative note, as NGXASI depreciated by -0.16% to close at 47,203.39 basis points as against -0.11% depreciation recorded previously. Its Year-to-Date (YTD) return currently stands at +10.50%.
Market breadth closed negative as EQUITYASUR led 23 Gainers as against 23 Losers topped by OKOMUOIL at the end of today’s session an unimproved performance when compared with previous outlook.
Market turnover closed positive as volume moved up by +26.49% as against -34.91% downtick recorded in the previous session. GUARANTY, TRANSCORP and FIDELITYBKwere the most active to boost market turnover. GUARANTY and NB topped market value list.

At the end of the first weekday of trading on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NGX), a total of 285,478,067 shares in 5,342 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 5,129,783,849.25, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Friday, February 4), today’s data shows 26% improvement in volume, 115% improvement in turnover, and 31% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 25.4 trillion.
In the aggregate, 113 NGX equities participated in trading, ending with 23 Gainers and 23 Losers. Sunu Assurances Nigeria led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 0.33 per share, followed by SCOA Nigeria (+9.6%), Prestige Assurance Company (+7.14%) and RT Briscoe (+7.14%). On the losing side, Okomu Oil Palm came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 127.80 per share, followed by N.E.M. Insurance Company (-9.61%), Guinea Insurance (-9.09%) and Pharma-Deko (-8.59%). Guaranty Trust Holding recorded the highest volume of 44.9 million traded shares, followed by Transcorp Nigeria (23.6m), Fidelity Bank (23.2m) and Nigerian Breweries (18.2m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) pared 76.53 (-0.16%) points to close at 47,203.39, representing a 1-week gain of 1.24%, a 4-week gain of 7.53%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 10.5%. Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Premium Index (-0.06%; +3.19% 1WK; +5.57% YTD), NGX Top 30 Index (-0.21%; +1.44% 1WK; +4.53% YTD), NGX Top 50 Index (-0.36%; +0.78% 1WK; +2.66% YTD), NGX Banking Index (+1.14%; +1.54% 1WK; +10.37% YTD), NGX Pension Index (+0.04%; +1.25% 1WK; +4.36% YTD), and NGX Industrial Index (+0%; +2.93% 1WK; +6.41% YTD).
