NGX: Investor record 261.bn gain as ASI appreciates by 0.9%
The Equity Market closed trading activities on Wednesday positive as the NGX-ASI increased by 0.9% to close at 53,603.80 compared to 53,124.63 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +4.59%.
At the end of today’s trading session, a total of 236,066,958 shares in 3,906 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 3,258,915,440.27, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Tuesday, March 28), today’s data shows 16% improvement in volume, 59% improvement in turnover, and 27% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 29.2 trillion.
In the aggregate, 107 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 22 gainers and 14 losers. Oando led the gainers with 9.84% share price appreciation closing at NGN 4.91 per share, followed by Caverton Offshore Support Group (+8.08%), Ikeja Hotel (+7.77%) and Transcorp Nigeria (+7.14%).
On the losing side, May & Baker Nigeria came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 8.7% at NGN 4.20 per share, followed by Consolidated Hallmark Insurance (-8.06%), RT Briscoe (-7.69%) and FTN Cocoa Processors (-7.14%).
Transcorp Nigeria recorded the highest volume of 91.4 million traded shares, followed by Zenith Bank (27.1m), Guaranty Trust Holding (22.1m) and United Bank for Africa (16.6m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) moved up 479.17 (0.9%) points to close at 53,603.80, representing a 1-week loss of 2.43%, a 4-week loss of 3.43%, but an overall year-to-date gain of 4.59%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 50 Index (+1.93%; +0.32% 1WK; +6.56% YTD), NGX Top 30 Index (+1.02%; -2.44% 1WK; +3.91% YTD), NGX Industrial Index (+2.69%; -0.34% 1WK; +6% YTD), NGX Banking Index (+1.97%; +1.29% 1WK; +6.77% YTD), NGX Premium Index (+1.9%; -0.66% 1WK; +8.28% YTD), and NGX Pension Index (+0.88%; -0.9% 1WK; +4.51% YTD).
