NGX: Investors garner N6.99bn gain as ASI appreciates marginally by 0.03% to maintain positive posture
Equities market closed on a positive note, as NGXASI appreciated by +0.03% to close at 47,246.90 basis points as against +0.20% appreciation recorded previously. Its Year-to-Date (YTD) return currently stands at +10.61%.
Market breadth closed positive as NIGERINS led 29 Gainers as against 18 Losers topped by ELLAHLAKES at the end of today’s session an improved performance when compared with previous outlook.
Market turnover closed positive as volume moved up by +0.09% as against -0.76% downtick recorded in the previous session. UBCAP, TRANSCORP and ZENITHBANK were the most active to boost market turnover. ZENITHBANK and UBCAP topped market value list.
At the end of today’s trading session on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NGX), a total of 421,820,943 shares in 5,992 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 5,155,124,125.35, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Monday, February 21), today’s data shows 22% improvement in turnover. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 25.5 trillion.
In the aggregate, 117 NGX equities participated in trading, ending with 29 gainers and 18 losers. Niger Insurance Company led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 0.22 per share, followed by Learn Africa (+10%), SCOA Nigeria (+9.79%) and Cutix (+9.65%). On the losing side, Ellah Lakes came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.88% at NGN 3.83 per share, followed by Veritas Kapital Assurance (-8%), Courteville Business Solutions (-5.56%) and Guinness Nigeria (-5.34%). United Capital recorded the highest volume of 66.1 million traded shares, followed by Transcorp Nigeria (53.5m), Zenith Bank (51.6m) and Fidelity Bank (44.4m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) inched up 12.99 (0.03%) points to close at 47,246.90, representing a 1-week gain of 0.39%, a 4-week gain of 2.85%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 10.61%. Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (+0.08%; +0.44% 1WK; +5.33% YTD), NGX Top 50 Index (+0.06%; +0.47% 1WK; +3.77% YTD), NGX Premium Index (+0.01%; -0.22% 1WK; +5.31% YTD), NGX Pension Index (+0.18%; +0.8% 1WK; +5.68% YTD), NGX Industrial Index (+0.02%; -0.21% 1WK; +6.15% YTD), and NGX Oil & Gas Index (+0.01%; -3.45% 1WK; +18.65% YTD).
