NGX: Investors lose N256.69bn as ASI decreases by 0.90%
Nigeria’s Equities Market closed negative on Thursday as the NGX-ASI decreased by 0.90% to close at 52,109.43 compared to 52,580.86 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +1.67%.
In like manner, the market capitalization decreased by N256.69 billion to N28.373 trillion from N28.631 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, while the market turnover decreased to N5.15 billion from N7.89 billion recorded at the close of the previous trading day.
At the end of today’s trading session on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NGX), a total of 334,237,506 shares in 5,350 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 5,148,039,264.29, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Wednesday, May 17), today’s data shows 51% decline in volume, 35% decline in turnover, and 20% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 28.4 trillion.
In the aggregate, 115 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 22 gainers and 27 losers. Associated Bus Company led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 0.44 per share, followed by MRS Oil Nigeria (+9.97%), NPF Microfinance Bank (+9.38%) and Courteville Business Solutions (+9.3%).
On the losing side, Academy Press came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 1.53 per share, followed by Ardova (-9.88%), McNichols (-9.33%) and Honeywell Flour Mill (-8.62%).
Access Holdings recorded the highest volume of 64.7 million traded shares, followed by Guaranty Trust Holding (51.1m), Zenith Bank (29.1m) and Transcorp Nigeria (26.1m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) dropped 471.43 (-0.9%) points to close at 52,109.43, representing a 1-week loss of 0.1%, a 4-week gain of 1.93%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 1.67%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 50 Index (-0.09%; +2.16% 1WK; +6.98% YTD), NGX Top 30 Index (-1.02%; +0.19% 1WK; +2.08% YTD), NGX Industrial Index (-0.01%; -0.01% 1WK; -1.54% YTD), NGX Consumer Goods Index (-0.02%; +1.82% 1WK; +28.61% YTD), NGX Premium Index (-0.06%; +0.41% 1WK; +12.39% YTD), and NGX Insurance Index (-0.34%; +2.54% 1WK; +12.39% YTD).
