
NGX: Investors lose N430.10bn as ASI declines by 1.32%

Nigeria’s Equities Market closed negative on Thursday as the NGX-ASI decreased by 1.32% to close at 59,195.21 compared to 59,985.10 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +15.50%.
Market capitalization decreased by N430.10 billion to N32.2321 trillion from N32.6621 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, while the market turnover decreased to N15.36 billion from N21.08 billion recorded at the close of the previous trading day.
At the end of today’s trading session, a total of 1,170,151,738 shares in 12,611 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 15,359,422,348.11, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Wednesday, June 14), today’s data shows 10% decline in volume, 27% decline in turnover, but 6% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 32.2 trillion.
In the aggregate, 123 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 36 gainers and 40 losers. Total Nigeria led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 336.70 per share, followed by MRS Oil Nigeria (+10%), Transcorp Hotels (+10%) and Ikeja Hotel (+9.97%).
On the losing side, Sunu Assurances Nigeria came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 0.45 per share, followed by Cornerstone Insurance Company (-9.73%), McNichols (-9.33%) and Access Holdings (-9.24%). United Bank for Africa recorded the highest volume of 193 million traded shares, followed by Access Holdings (122m), Fidelity Bank (103m) and Guaranty Trust Holding (99.8m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) declined 789.89 (-1.32%) points to close at 59,195.21, representing a 1-week gain of 5.66%, a 4-week gain of 12.93%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 15.5%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 50 Index (-1.17%; +8.16% 1WK; +26.67% YTD), NGX Top 30 Index (-1.57%; +12.42% 1WK; +23.49% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (+12.12%; +29.55% 1WK; +81.44% YTD), NGX Industrial Index (-0.21%; -1.4% 1WK; +1.95% YTD), NGX Main Board Index (-0.34%; +5.16% 1WK; +10.75% YTD), and NGX Consumer Goods Index (-0.44%; +6.97% 1WK; +54.2% YTD).
