NGX: Investors lose N57.72bn as ASI decrease by 0.20%
Nigeria’s Equities Market closed negative Thursday as the NGX-ASI decreased by 0.20% to close at 52,821.64 compared to 52,927.60 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +3.06%.
Similarly, the market capitalization decreased by N57.72 billion to N28.7617 trillion from N28.8194 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, while the market turnover increased to N9.18 billion from N7.83 billion recorded at the close of the previous trading day.
At the end of today’s trading session, a total of 377,136,295 shares in 5,879 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 9,178,319,192.53, were traded.
Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Wednesday, May 24), today’s data shows 17% decline in volume, 17% improvement in turnover, but 11% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 28.8 trillion.
In the aggregate, 111 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 22 gainers and 24 losers.
FTN Cocoa Processors led the gainers with 8.77% share price appreciation closing at NGN 0.62 per share, followed by Tantalizers (+8.33%), Wapic Insurance (+7.14%) and Total Nigeria (+6.87%). On the losing side, Conoil came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.92% at NGN 43.60 per share, followed by Unilever Nigeria (-8.28%), Eterna (-6.21%) and PZ Cussons Nigeria (-6.11%).
United Bank for Africa recorded the highest volume of 86.2 million traded shares, followed by Access Holdings (67.4m), Zenith Bank (39.4m) and Guaranty Trust Holding (31m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) pared 106.00 (-0.2%) points to close at 52,821.60, representing a 1-week gain of 1.37%, a 4-week gain of 1.39%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 3.06%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (-0.09%; +1.54% 1WK; +3.65% YTD), NGX Top 50 Index (-0.47%; +2.33% 1WK; +9.48% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (+0.23%; +1.18% 1WK; +20.6% YTD), NGX Premium Index (-0.04%; +1.84% 1WK; +14.46% YTD), NGX Industrial Index (-0.07%; +0.2% 1WK; -1.35% YTD), and NGX Insurance Index (-0.08%; +4.45% 1WK; +17.4% YTD).
