NGX: Investors lose N7.24bn as ASI decreases by 0.03%
Nigeria’s Equities Market closed negative Wednesday as the NGX-ASI decreased by 0.03% to close at 56,024.52 compared to 56,038.85 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +9.31%.
Market capitalization decreased by N7.8 billion to N30.5056 trillion from N30.5135 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, while the market turnover increased to N6.53billion from N5.82 billion recorded at the close of the previous trading day.
At the end of today’s trading session on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NGX), a total of 397,624,810 shares in 5,613 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 6,537,185,970.93, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Tuesday, June 6), today’s data shows 23% improvement in volume, 12% improvement in turnover, but 9% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 30.5 trillion.
In the aggregate, 119 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 32 gainers and 13 losers. Honeywell Flour Mill led the gainers with 9.87% share price appreciation closing at NGN 3.45 per share, followed by Eterna (+9.87%), FTN Cocoa Processors (+9.86%) and Cornerstone Insurance Company (+9.78%).
On the losing side, Union Bank Nigeria came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 8.86% at NGN 7.20 per share, followed by Flour Mills Nigeria (-4.2%), Nigerian Exchange Group (-3.11%) and Prestige Assurance Company (-2.44%). NPF Microfinance Bank recorded the highest volume of 101 million traded shares, followed by Guaranty Trust Holding (43m), Japaul Gold and Ventures (27.8m) and Fidelity Bank (24.3m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) pared 14.33 (-0.03%) points to close at 56,024.52, representing a 1-week gain of 0.46%, a 4-week gain of 6.5%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 9.31%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (+0.01%; +0.14% 1WK; +9.85% YTD), NGX Top 50 Index (-0.13%; +0.56% 1WK; +17.11% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (+3.61%; +7.14% 1WK; +28.44% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (+0.42%; +8.68% 1WK; +40.05% YTD), NGX Pension Index (+0.15%; -0.43% 1WK; +23.48% YTD), and NGX Premium Index (+0.06%; -0.68% 1WK; +22.29% YTD).
