NGX: Investors record N11.44bn gain as ASI appreciates by 0.35%
Equities Market closed positive as the key market indicator declined by 21bps amid negative market breadth.
The NGX All-Share Index advanced by 0.04% to close at 55,822.14 basis points as against 0.35% gain recorded previously to close at 55,801.14 basis points at the end of the last trading session. In Naira terms, the NGX Market CAP records a N11.44bn gain.
At the end of today’s trading session on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NGX), a total of 311,476,310 shares in 3,627 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 3,093,342,075.67, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Wednesday, March 8), today’s data shows 104% improvement in volume, 13% decline in turnover, but 10% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 30.4 trillion.
In the aggregate, 109 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 12 gainers and 19 losers. Transcorp Nigeria led the gainers with 8.66% share price appreciation closing at NGN 1.38 per share, followed by Royal Exchange (+5.63%), Champion Breweries (+4.6%) and LivingTrust Mortgage Bank (+4.21%).
On the losing side, NCR Nigeria came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.93% at NGN 2.63 per share, followed by Conoil (-9.93%), University Press (-9%) and Prestige Assurance Company (-8.89%).
Transcorp Nigeria recorded the highest volume of 180 million traded shares, followed by Guaranty Trust Holding (41.4m), Zenith Bank (18.5m) and Stanbic IBTC Holdings (7.95m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) inched up 21.00 (0.04%) points to close at 55,822.14, representing a 1-week gain of 0.27%, a 4-week gain of 2.69%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 8.92%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 50 Index (+0.18%; +0.44% 1WK; +8.55% YTD), NGX Top 30 Index (+0.15%; +0.41% 1WK; +8.15% YTD), NGX Industrial Index (+0.53%; +1.72% 1WK; +6.48% YTD), NGX Premium Index (+0.17%; +0.81% 1WK; +11.7% YTD), NGX Consumer Goods Index (+0.04%; -0.02% 1WK; +17.84% YTD), and NGX Banking Index (-0.01%; -1.1% 1WK; +9.29% YTD).
