NGX: Investors record N112.56bn gain as ASI appreciates by 0.42%;
Equities Market closed positive as the key market indicator advanced by 206.66 bps amid positive market breadth
The NGX All-Share Index advanced by 0.42% to close at 49,706.09 basis points as against a 0.05% gain recorded previously to close at 49,499.43 basis points at the end of the last trading session. In Naira terms, the NGX Market CAP records a N112.56bn gain.
At the end of the last weekday of trading, a total of 140,367,949 shares in 2,063 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 4,020,302,626.88, were traded.
Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Thursday, December 22), today’s data shows 6% improvement in volume, 28% improvement in turnover, but 31% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 27.1 trillion.
In the aggregate, 99 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 30 gainers and 10 losers. Geregu Power led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 115.50 per share, followed by Thomas Wyatt Nigeria (+9.46%), SCOA Nigeria (+9.09%) and Honeywell Flour Mill (+8.96%).
On the losing side, Consolidated Hallmark Insurance came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 7.69% at NGN 0.60 per share, followed by Chams (-4.35%), Cornerstone Insurance Company (-3.85%) and Mutual Benefits Assurance (-3.57%).
UPDC Real Estate Investment Trust recorded the highest volume of 50.4 million traded shares, followed by Geregu Power (12.9m), UAC of Nigeria (10.5m) and MTN Nigeria (8.17m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) climbed 206.66 (0.42%) points to close at 49,706.09, representing a 1-week gain of 0.79%, a 4-week gain of 4.52%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 16.36%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 50 Index (+0.75%; +1.56% 1WK; -1.31% YTD), NGX Top 30 Index (+0.35%; +0.62% 1WK; +4.32% YTD), NGX Banking Index (+1.46%; +1.97% 1WK; +4.12% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (+1.1%; +0.32% 1WK; -15.09% YTD), NGX Pension Index (+1.02%; +2.8% 1WK; +9.64% YTD), and NGX Main Board Index (+0.44%; +1.03% 1WK; +26.38% YTD).
