NGX: Investors record N137.26bn gain as ASI increases by 0.54%
Equities market closed on a positive note, as NGXASI appreciated by +0.43% to close at 46, 205.05 basis points as against -1.12% depreciation recorded previously. Its Year-to-Date (YTD) return currently stands at +8.17%.
Market breadth closed positive as CORNERST led 39 Gainers as against 7 Losers topped by UPL at the end of today’s session an improved performance when compared with previous outlook.
Market turnover closed positive as volume moved up by +12.17% as against -15.06% downtick recorded in the previous session. FBNH, TRANSCORP and ZENITHBANK were the most active to boost market turnover. MTNN and ZENITHBANK topped market value list.
UPL leads the list of active stocks that recorded impressive volume spike at the end of today’s session.
At the end of the last weekday of trading on the NGX, a total of 313,445,907 shares in 5,067 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 5,034,515,390.94, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Thursday, January 27), today’s data shows 12% improvement in volume, 82% improvement in turnover, and 11% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 24.9 trillion.
In the aggregate, 111 NGX equities participated in trading, ending with 39 gainers and seven losers. Cornerstone Insurance Company led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 0.55 per share, followed by Vitafoam Nigeria (+9.91%), Ecobank Transnational (+9.62%) and Academy Press (+9.3%). On the losing side, University Press came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.86% at NGN 2.65 per share, followed by Consolidated Hallmark Insurance (-7.69%), Cutix (-4%) and Linkage Assurance (-1.92%). FBN Holdings recorded the highest volume of 40.6 million traded shares, followed by Transcorp Nigeria (30.9m), Zenith Bank (26.7m) and Guaranty Trust Holding (20.9m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) climbed 195.82 (0.43%) points to close at 46,205.05, representing a 1-week gain of 0.54%, a 4-week gain of 10.5%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 8.17%. Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 50 Index (+0.89%; -1.12% 1WK; +1.16% YTD), NGX Top 30 Index (+0.6%; -1.13% 1WK; +1.78% YTD), NGX Premium Index (+0.37%; -3.33% 1WK; +0.91% YTD), NGX Banking Index (+2.3%; +4.84% 1WK; +8.22% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (+2.22%; +3.53% 1WK; +13.78% YTD), and NGX Insurance Index (+1.61%; -3.12% 1WK; -5.76% YTD).
