NGX investors record N138.05bn gain as ASI inches up by 0.58%
Equities market closed on a positive note, as NGXASI appreciated by +0.58% to close at 44,655.89 basis points as against -0.12% depreciation recorded previously. Its Year-to-Date (YTD) returns currently stands at +4.54%.
Market breadth closed positive as SKYAVN led 25 Gainers as against 11 Losers topped by NEM at the end of day’s session – an improved performance when compared with previous outlook.
Market turnover closed positive as volume moved up by +9.76% as against -47.18% downtick recorded in the previous session. Transcorp, Guaranty Trust Holding And Jaizbank were the most active to boost market turnover. Guaranty Trust Holding and FBNH topped market value list.

At the end of today’s trading session on the NGX, a total of 235,233,902 shares in 4,151 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 1,918,246,091.46, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Monday, January 17), today’s data shows 10% improvement in volume, 29% decline in turnover, and 6% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 24.1 trillion.
In the aggregate, 104 NGX equities participated in trading, ending with 27 gainers and 13 losers. Skyway Aviation Handling Co. led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 5.83 per share, followed by Courteville Business Solutions (+8.57%), FTN Cocoa Processors (+8.33%) and Dangote Sugar Refinery (+7.35%).
On the losing side, N.E.M. Insurance Company came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 8.33% at NGN 3.63 per share, followed by Sunu Assurances Nigeria (-5.88%), Regency Alliance Insurance Co. (-4.26%) and Sovereign Trust Insurance (-4%). Transcorp Nigeria recorded the highest volume of 38.1 million traded shares, followed by Guaranty Trust Holding (18.7m), Jaiz Bank (15m) and Ecobank Transnational (14.5m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) moved up 256.23 (0.58%) points to close at 44,655.89, representing a 1-week gain of 1.82%, a 4-week gain of 5.64%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 4.54%. Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (+0.52%; +2.42% 1WK; +1.46% YTD), NGX Top 50 Index (+0.5%; +1.77% 1WK; +0.82% YTD), NGX Premium Index (+0.11%; +2.71% 1WK; +1.68% YTD), NGX Banking Index (+0.98%; +1.61% 1WK; +2.45% YTD), NGX Industrial Index (+0.79%; +3.73% 1WK; +5.58% YTD), and NGX Consumer Goods Index (+0.69%; +1.38% 1WK; -4.34% YTD).
