NGX: Investors record N154.29bn gain as ASI grows by 0.55%
Equities Market closed positive as the key market indicator advanced by 283.27 bps amid positive market breadth
The NGX All-Share Index advanced by 0.55% to close at 51729.87 basis points as against a -0.48% loss recorded previously to close at 51446.6 basis points at the end of the last trading session. In Naira terms, the NGX Market CAP records a N154.29bn gain.
At the end of today’s trading session on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NGX), a total of 281,944,800 shares in 3,679 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 8,158,927,817.46, were traded.
Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Tuesday, January 10), today’s data shows 18% decline in volume, 2% decline in turnover, and 12% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 28.2 trillion.
In the aggregate, 110 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 26 gainers and 12 losers. Thomas Wyatt Nigeria led the gainers with 9.48% share price appreciation closing at NGN 1.27 per share, followed by Champion Breweries (+9.45%), FTN Cocoa Processors (+7.69%) and Mutual Benefits Assurance (+6.67%).
On the losing side, Chellarams came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.89% at NGN 1.64 per share, followed by Royal Exchange (-7.41%), Wapic Insurance (-6.67%) and AXA Mansard Insurance (-6.54%). FBN Holdings recorded the highest volume of 109 million traded shares, followed by BUA Cement (42.4m), Guaranty Trust Holding (34m) and Access Holdings (13.5m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) moved up 283.27 (0.55%) points to close at 51,729.87, representing a 1-week gain of 0.14%, a 4-week gain of 5.83%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 0.93%.
