NGX: Investors record N199.02bn gain as ASI appreciates by 0.73%
Nigerian Equities Market closed positive as the key market indicator advanced by 365.40 bps amid positive market breadth.
The NGX All-Share Index advanced by 0.73% to close at 50,300 basis points as against a 0.46% gain recorded previously to close at 49,934.60 basis points at the end of the last trading session. In Naira terms, the NGX Market CAP records a N199.02bn gain.
At the end of today’s trading session on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NGX), a total of 297,983,960 shares in 4,480 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 5,437,632,142.18, were traded.
Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Wednesday, December 28), today’s data shows 40% decline in volume, 40% improvement in turnover, and 12% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 27.4 trillion.
In the aggregate, 111 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 37 gainers and nine losers. Nestle Nigeria led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 1,100.00 per share, followed by Geregu Power (+10%), McNichols (+9.62%) and Computer Warehouse Group (+9.52%).
On the losing side, Livestock Feeds came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 8.4% at NGN 1.09 per share, followed by FBN Holdings (-6.36%), Vitafoam Nigeria (-5.92%) and Unilever Nigeria (-2.54%).
FBN Holdings recorded the highest volume of 78.9 million traded shares, followed by Guaranty Trust Holding (38.5m), Zenith Bank (19.6m) and Aiico Insurance (17.5m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) moved up 365.40 (0.73%) points to close at 50,300.00, representing a 1-week gain of 1.79%, a 4-week gain of 6.29%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 17.75%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 50 Index (+1.16%; +3.7% 1WK; +1% YTD), NGX Top 30 Index (+0.66%; +1.53% 1WK; +5.39% YTD), NGX Consumer Goods Index (+3.65%; +4.74% 1WK; -0.15% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (+2.82%; +3.53% 1WK; +34.6% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (+1.84%; +3.9% 1WK; -12.34% YTD), and NGX Main Board Index (+1.02%; +2.42% 1WK; +28.56% YTD).
