NGX: Investors record N20.35bn gain as ASI appreciates by 0.07%
Equities Market closed positive as the key market indicator advanced by 37.37 bps amid positive market breadth.
The NGX All-Share Index advanced by 0.07% to close at 54,364.67 basis points as against a 0.06% loss recorded previously to close at 54,327.30 basis points at the end of the last trading session. In Naira terms, the NGX Market CAP records a N20.35bn gain.
At the end of the first weekday of trading, a total of 140,840,677 shares in 3,553 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 3,158,830,677.52, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Friday, February 10), today’s data shows 20% decline in volume and 41% decline in turnover. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 29.6 trillion.
In the aggregate, 112 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 17 gainers and nine losers. Conoil led the gainers with 9.98% share price appreciation closing at NGN 35.25 per share, followed by MRS Oil Nigeria (+8.24%), Chams (+8%) and Glaxo Smithkline Consumer (+6.25%).
On the losing side, Computer Warehouse Group came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.18% at NGN 0.89 per share, followed by Fidelity Bank (-2.87%), Nigerian Aviation Handling Co. (-2.38%) and FBN Holdings (-1.69%). United Bank for Africa recorded the highest volume of 28.6 million traded shares, followed by Guaranty Trust Holding (22.9m), Access Holdings (14.7m) and Zenith Bank (12.6m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) inched up 37.37 (0.07%) points to close at 54,364.67, representing a 1-week loss of 0.01%, a 4-week gain of 3.85%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 6.08%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 50 Index (+0.07%; -0.06% 1WK; +4.85% YTD), NGX Top 30 Index (+0.06%; +0.07% 1WK; +6.04% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (+0.98%; +1.64% 1WK; +16.93% YTD), NGX Banking Index (+0.56%; -0.03% 1WK; +9.12% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (+0.49%; -3.17% 1WK; +0.91% YTD), and NGX Premium Index (+0.16%; +0.55% 1WK; +8.62% YTD).
