Nigerian Equities Market closed positive as the key market indicator advanced by 372.57bps amid negative market breadth
The NGX All-Share Index advanced by 0.81% to close at 46,604.94 basis points as against 2.90% gain recorded previously to close at 46,232.37 basis points at the end of the last trading session. In Naira terms, the NGX Market CAP records N202.93bn gain.
At the end of today’s trading session, a total of 138,600,651 shares in 3,434 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 2,170,844,726.07, were traded.
Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Wednesday, November 23), today’s data shows 26% decline in volume but 18% improvement in turnover. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 25.4 trillion.
In the aggregate, 106 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 16 gainers and 23 losers. Ecobank Transnational led the gainers with 6.5% share price appreciation closing at NGN 10.65 per share, followed by Airtel Africa (+6.3%), BUA Foods (+6.11%) and Nigerian Breweries (+5.84%).
On the losing side, Nestle Nigeria came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 1,071.00 per share, followed by Red Star Express (-10%), Computer Warehouse Group (-9.09%) and Lafarge Wapco (-6.22%).
Sterling Bank recorded the highest volume of 24.2 million traded shares, followed by Transcorp Nigeria (21.8m), Ecobank Transnational (10.6m) and Access Holdings (8.61m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) moved up 372.57 (0.81%) points to close at 46,604.94, representing a 1-week gain of 5.89%, a 4-week gain of 4.44%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 9.1%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (+0.25%; +5.92% 1WK; -2.33% YTD), NGX Top 50 Index (-1.41%; +3.78% 1WK; -4.36% YTD), NGX Main Board Index (+2.05%; +5.5% 1WK; +16.09% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (-0.12%; +4.1% 1WK; -18.66% YTD), NGX Industrial Index (-0.38%; +9.16% 1WK; +7.43% YTD), and NGX Consumer Goods Index (-0.42%; +3.88% 1WK; -4.11% YTD).
