NGX: Investors record N248.04bn gain as ASI rises up by 1.01%
Equities market closed on a positive note, as NGXASI appreciated by +1.01% to close at 45,890.52 basis points as against +1.73% appreciations recorded previously. Its Year-to-Date (YTD) returns currently stands at +7.43%.
Market breadth closed positive as Northern Nigeria Flour Mills led 27 Gainers as against nine Losers topped by Regalins at the end of today’s session – an improved performance when compared with previous outlook.
Market turnover closed positive as volume moved up by +245.34% as against +7.53% uptick recorded in the previous session. Transcorp, FBNH and Jaizbank were the most active to boost market turnover. Seplat and Dangcem topped market value list. Seplat leads the list of active stocks that recorded impressive volume spike at the end of today’s session.
At the end of today’s trading session on the NGX, a total of 355,916,042 shares in 4,342 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 31,241,993,649.62, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Wednesday, January 19), today’s data shows 41% improvement in volume, 250% improvement in turnover, and 3% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 24.7 trillion.
In the aggregate, 100 NGX equities participated in trading, ending with 27 gainers and nine losers. Northern Nigeria Flour Mills led the gainers with 9.92% share price appreciation closing at NGN 7.20 per share, followed by Learn Africa (+9.32%), Cadbury Nigeria (+7.95%) and Linkage Assurance (+7.55%). On the losing side, Dangote Sugar Refinery came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 2.74% at NGN 17.75 per share, followed by Stanbic IBTC Holdings (-2.7%), Ardova (-2.6%) and FCMB Group (-1.67%). Dangote Cement recorded the highest volume of 103 million traded shares, followed by FBN Holdings (54m), Transcorp Nigeria (34.1m) and Sovereign Trust Insurance (21m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) increased by 460.38 (1.01%) points to close at 45,890.52, representing a 1-week gain of 2.88%, a 4-week gain of 8.25%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 7.43%. Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Premium Index (+2.3%; +1.8% 1WK; +4.23% YTD), NGX Top 50 Index (+1.3%; +1.49% 1WK; +2.15% YTD), NGX Top 30 Index (+1.07%; +1.53% 1WK; +2.64% YTD), NGX Industrial Index (+2.72%; +3.39% 1WK; +8.45% YTD), NGX Lotus Islamic Index (+1.14%; +1.52% 1WK; +0.47% YTD), and NGX Pension Index (+0.56%; +1.05% 1WK; +1.66% YTD).
