NGX: Investors record N256.4bn gain as ASI appreciates by 0.92%
The Equities Market closed positive as the key market indicator advanced by 470.74 bps amid positive market breadth
The NGX All-Share Index advanced by 0.92% to close at 51693.08 basis points as against a 0.70% gain recorded previously to close at 51222.34 basis points at the end of the last trading session. In Naira terms, the NGX Market CAP records a N256.4bn gain.
At the end of the first weekday of trading on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NGX), a total of 229,218,947 shares in 3,900 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 2,907,872,790.09, were traded.
Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Friday, January 6), today’s data shows 17% improvement in volume, 61% decline in turnover, but 7% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 28.2 trillion.
In the aggregate, 103 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 18 gainers and 17 losers. Thomas Wyatt Nigeria led the gainers with 9.28% share price appreciation closing at NGN 1.06 per share, followed by Associated Bus Company (+8%), Royal Exchange (+5.88%) and Airtel Africa (+5.16%).
On the losing side, PZ Cussons Nigeria came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.09% at NGN 10.00 per share, followed by Union Bank Nigeria (-8.63%), Wema Bank (-8.21%) and Aiico Insurance (-6.25%). Sterling Bank recorded the highest volume of 85.2 million traded shares, followed by United Bank for Africa (21.6m), FBN Holdings (20.1m) and Access Holdings (10.3m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) moved up 470.74 (0.92%) points to close at 51,693.08, representing a 1-week gain of 0.86%, a 4-week gain of 6.75%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 0.86%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (+0.88%; +0.99% 1WK; +0.99% YTD), NGX Top 50 Index (-0.6%; +0.95% 1WK; +0.95% YTD), NGX Main Board Index (+1.6%; +1.05% 1WK; +1.05% YTD), NGX Pension Index (+0.31%; +2.01% 1WK; +2.01% YTD), NGX Consumer Goods Index (+0.08%; +6.52% 1WK; +6.52% YTD), and NGX Oil & Gas Index (+0%; +0.06% 1WK; +0.06% YTD).
