NGX: Investors record N26.15bn loss as ASI declines by 0.09%
Nigerian Equities Market closed negative as the key market indicator declined by 48.00 bps amid negative market breadth.
The NGX All-Share Index declined by 0.09% to close at 54,184.34 basis points as against 0.33% gain recorded previously to close at 54,232.34 basis points at the end of the last trading session. In Naira terms, the NGX Market CAP records a N26.15bn loss.
At the end of the first weekday of trading, a total of 292,559,938 shares in 4,408 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 2,380,437,307.54, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Friday, March 31), today’s data shows 48% decline in volume, 35% decline in turnover, but 12% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 29.5 trillion.
In the aggregate, 107 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 17 gainers and 23 losers. AXA Mansard Insurance led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 2.09 per share, followed by Lasaco Assurance (+10%), Nigerian Aviation Handling Co. (+9.88%) and Ikeja Hotel (+8.2%). On the losing side, SCOA Nigeria came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 0.90 per share, followed by UAC of Nigeria (-9.95%), Sunu Assurances Nigeria (-9.62%) and Eterna (-9.56%). Fidelity Bank recorded the highest volume of 79.7 million traded shares, followed by Transcorp Nigeria (28.8m), United Bank for Africa (26.8m) and Access Holdings (17.1m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) pared 48.00 (-0.09%) points to close at 54,184.34, representing a 1-week gain of 0.81%, a 4-week loss of 2.56%, but an overall year-to-date gain of 5.72%. Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (-0.15%; +0.59% 1WK; +4.77% YTD), NGX Top 50 Index (-0.27%; -0.84% 1WK; +4.73% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (+0.3%; +2.48% 1WK; +2.12% YTD), NGX Industrial Index (+0%; -3.13% 1WK; +2.21% YTD), NGX Premium Index (-0.01%; +3.62% 1WK; +11.96% YTD), and NGX Pension Index (-0.13%; +2.38% 1WK; +6.21% YTD).
